yesterday i got my  review update, my support went up from 465 to 814, what am i and my family sopose to live off of? my ex lives off the system, uses the state medical insurance insteat of what i provide for my 3 kids from my first marriage.  now my child support goes up leaving me 350 a week to live on, but the part that gets me the most is 814 divided by 3(#of kids from first marriage)that averages out to be 271 per child  to figure my child support, i have remarried and have another child with my current wife, when they figured my support they allowed 135 for my  youngest child? how can they figure that. my ex wife on top of it all has slandered me to my children so bad they think i am a monster, she will not even let me have phone contact, (which was in the divorce papers)and i was to have liberal and reasonable visitation. i have none due to her oh so kind words to me and what her family has told my kids, i am by no means a rich man but how can the system do this to NCP, who really want to be a part of their kids lives, this all takes place in the state of Iowa and i am just across the boarder in Minnesota, no lawyer will help me  that i have called so far, because i can't afford the retainer. what are the possibilities of  one doing it pro bono???  yeah maybe in my dreams, there are so many issues here that need to be addressed but just getting the ball rolling is tough unless i am a millionare, my current wife was married b4 also but has no trouble with her kids like i do, where do i go or turn for help?

Hello.  Unfortunately, and I hate to be the "bearer of bad news," but the only person who can TRULY help you, is YOU.  As many have been told, and I will tell you - you MUST RESEARCH!!!!!!  It isn't easy, it's time consuming, but SOMEDAY, it will be worth it!

Unfortunately, this also does not happen just in Iowa, as I live with my NCP Husband in Indiana and he has truly been dealt the shaft.  It happens everywhere.

Second - don't give up trying.  TRY to see your child, Try phone contact - and DOCUMENT everything.  As for support, it sucks.  Period.  I know that as well.  If I did not have the job I do, we would be out on the streets as my husband's child support payments do not leave him enough to survive on afterwards.

Don't give up.  Use your anger in a positive, Constructive way, and RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!

You might also start searching for Father's Rights groups in your area.  Believe it or not, there ARE attorneys out there who CARE about their NCP clients (though I see from the posts that not many people, us included, have been lucky enough to find one).

Find your support in other NCP's and LOVE your kids, for the time being, that is one of the most important things you can do!

Tell me about child support being so unfair..In 1991 I beame disabled..Still had 2 years of child support to pay..Well my sons step-dad was already on disability..Because I was unable to pay child support SS let him collect benifits on my son..When I finally got my disability I lost a few thousand dollars of back-pay because I could not collect on my son..About a year after I got my disability child support wanted me to pay my arearages..They tried to have my SS benifits garnished, but SS agreed that is was paid because his step-dad drawed SS on him,and that what he did draw on him was deducted from my back-pay..My ex-wife even told them she considered it paid..But CSA says they can not give me credit because it was not paid through them..Well I havent heard anything from them for about 10 years...My son is 34 now.. I filed for the stimulus payment..Guess what....CHILD SUPPORT TOOK IT!!!!!! Now tell me this is fair...I would also like to add that she never recieved any kind of welfare or anything...So there is no issue in paying back the state

i am familiar,if you have time read my post you will probably see some familiar items i live on just 175/week its not easy i do go hungrey some nights, i dont have much of a life i dont always get my prescriptions filled on time sometimes i cannot at all,im diabetic type 2, and have depression, high blood pressure,(duh, wonder why)
anyway i asked for a review and the worker told me that if i do my support will likely go up i dont understand why but i am really hesitant to try because of this possibility, cant afford an attorney tried to get one beause i dont have the funds to get one, i was told i am not eligible because of my income, really oxymoran, just dont get it i was told if i get a part time job to offset the support amounts that support would go up because of higher income,i feel there is really not much hope for me, my ex cheated left me and i am being punished?Huh??good luck to you

My husband and I live inSarasota, FL and let me tell you my husband pays $502/week for two kids from his previous marriage, this is 80% of his pay a week. His ex the CP refuses to work and lives off the cs in the house, with the cars, and with the business she doesnt use, AND we just found out that she has been lying and saying both kids are disabled and collecting $600/mo in ssi. All the while she is being represnted for free with no limit by the FL department of revenue who takes it upon themselves to aggressivly defend CPs and get the MAX amount of child support thet possibly can at any expense. They dont care if she gets a job or has any income, she doesnt have to prove what she is using the cs for, and they dont care if she is keeping us from seeing the kids for over a year now. Also I recently learned that in FL they dont care how many children are involved, the first ones in line get the most in support then it is a sliding scale down to 0 for any others. and they REALLY dont care how or at what expense they get that money, you could be homeless and starving to death and they will pummel you to the ground. Kick em while theyre down mentality.  Also there is no pro bono family law work being done because they offer the forms you need online for free... lol but they just wont tell you how to use them. Its a riddle....
