It is good news that people can protest, and make it personal, without going to prison. Just because Hodge is a “nice old lady”, doesn’t mean she isn’t capable of doing immense harm by just “doing her duty”. As Fred of Fred On Everything pointed out, we have lost the ability to feel shame for doing things that should cause us shame. It’s disgraceful that our public servants are so immensely out of touch with the results of their actions.
Daily Star: Simply The Best 7 Days A Week :: Latest News :: Two cleared of false imprisonment
Two fathers’ rights protesters who handcuffed former children’s minister Margaret Hodge during a protest have been cleared of false imprisonment.Jonathan Stanesby, 41, and Jason Hatch, 35, shackled the MP for Barking during a family law conference at the Lowry Hotel in Salford in 2004.
The idea that fathers should just put up with the current situation in Family Law is ludicrous. It used to be perfectly legal to kill anyone trying to kidnap your child. What has happened? Why is it assumed that fathers don’t really need or care about a close and intimate relationship with their children?
I disagree strongly with those who say that these kinds of protest actions by groups like Fathers4Justice actually set the cause of Family Law Reform back. Too many public officials seems to have some kind of myopia about this issue, and this is the only thing that will wake them up.
Actually, when you look at the history of reform movements, it is never a slow deliberative committee driven process that turns the wheel of reform. It is always violence. Not just protests, but also hardcore physical violence. People get killed. That’s what happened in the South that finally led to the abolition of slavery. That’s what happened in the 60s that finally led to the Civil Rights Reforms.
The established and entrenched forces arrayed against fathers in this country, as well as Britain and Canada just don’t get it. The only way to make them see is to make them feel pain and fear. Give them love and peaceful deliberation and they will simply manipulate the situation to make it even worse.
They have to realize that:
- There are consequences for destroying lives.
- There is a growing number of people who refuse to cooperate.
- Things are going to get worse unless they reform this loony-assed system.
