Robbins-Zust announces independent candidacy for state senate

PITTSFIELD, Mass. A fathers’ rights activist has announced his independent candidacy for the state Senate.

Dion Robbins-Zust will appear on the November seventh ballot as an unenrolled candidate. He is seeking to replace state Senator Andrea Nuciforo, who is not seeking re-election and is instead running for the open seat in the Middle Berkshire Registry of Deeds office.Robbins-Zust said he supports joint custody of children when parents divorce. As a member of the Berkshire Fatherhood Coalition, he helped gather signatures for a 2004 ballot question on shared parenting that won 86 percent of the statewide vote.He also says he supports protection of open spaces and same-sex marriage.Robbins-Zust will be competing against Republican Matthew Kinnaman of Lee and the winner of five Democrats on the September 19th primary ballot.
