Father stages roof top protest in London

LONDON, Sept. 27 (Xinhuanet) — A campaigner of a father’s rights group breached security at the Houses of Parliament in London and climbed onto the roof of the building unfurling a protest banner, Sky News TV reported on Tuesday.

The Fathers 4 Justice protester, Guy Harrison, said he was making his protest to coincide with Tony Blair’s speech to the Labor Party conference in Brighton with his banner reading: “Does Blair Care?” and “For Fawkes sake, change family law”.

“I’m a businessman, not a terrorist,” he shouted on the roof, while armed police officers waited some 40 feet below.

He confirmed to Sky News that he entered the building as a visitor and made his way to the roof after conducting a series of dummy runs over past days.

Harrison said he had not seen his daughter for four and a half years and asked Blair to sit down with campaigners to discuss their grievances.

Harrison was fined for his involvement in the powder-bombing at Tony Blair as he spoke in the House of Commons in May of last year.

Fathers 4 Justice leader Matt O’Connor said the protest was staged “to highlight the fact that they are not addressing the issues”. Enditem

it is good to see someone has the willpower and the sight to fight back when their government refuses to see the problems they support.this man has shown us all that care that there is a non-violent way to fight the system both in england as well as the u.s.. we should support this type of activities as well as think of new ones that will open the eyes of our governments who have beeen sleeping on the family issues for way to long, p.s. send letters to government, senators, congressmen as well as the whitehouse ,then send more letters ,it works, from a man who fought and won by never letting up the pressure, my kids love me for it. ,so will yours, peace

I agree with drummerkiss. One has to admire Guy Harrison. He’s held his ground and fought back the only way he knew how. What alternatives are left to us? Most of I must admit ran away when the pressure grew too unbearable. However, running away is not the answer. Like Harrison we must stand our ground and fight back. The women found out a long time ago that power comes organizing pressure groups throughout the country. Moveon.org has used the internet to organize peace protests throughout the nation by forming units in every town and hamlet throughout the country. Why can’t we abused men do the same. Are we too guilt ridden. Have we been psychically castrated as children by our Moms and teachers? What is holding us back? Lets rally around Harrison as Veterans for Peace and Peace & Justice rallied around Cindy Sheehan.
